Celebrate the Centenary of the Right for Teenagers to Schooling

On 23rd July 1918 Earl Lytton pushed through the second reading of the 1918 H.A.L. Fisher Education Act, this was to give teenagers the right to schooling to 14 and education to 16, through continuation education. Let us not only celebrate this important right, but also the vision behind Lytton's speech, and that of the community he lead from 1914, of practising teachers, headteachers, school inspectors, suffragettes, politicians, artists and criminal justice system workers... their stated aim, which framed their innovations, practice, research and sharing, was 'liberate the child'.

Read parts of his speech, and items of context at Centenary of 1918 Education Act, then think of a way your community can celebrate, research, share the importance of these voices and their aims, to humanise children being destroyed through poverty, industrialisation and war.
