One of my dreams is to have Summerhill School referenced, and taught in every state primary and secondary school in the country, as part of citizenship lessons and children learning about the rights of the child, and how to take part in decision-making.
This page will flag-up ongoing work, online and otherwise, that is leading to that dream.
Most recently I have added to the A History of the World in One Hundred Objects website a picture of the object, 'Summerhill Pegboard'. This is a piece of art made by the children and staff at the school, and finished at the Museum of Childhood. It is our registration system, and is an important part of the CBBC drama 'Summerhill'.

It is a great way to compare and contrast schools based on authority, the teacher at the front of the class calling names out, and the children responding with 'here, sir'. In some countries with large schools and classes they actually do it with numbers instead of names. And the child creating their own image, 'peg', to represent them on the board, and then having to move it to 'in', 'out' or 'far out' as a register of their whereabouts in the school.
What images are on the board? What images would your children create for themselves? How would their pegboard look like?
